Obama & The Pittsburg Steelers
by admin on Jan.18, 2009, under Political

Is the game already in the bag or has it just begun?
I’m rooting for both of them (even as a Libertarian Chicago fan) but I’m afraid the Steelers are a much safer bet, even in a game where anything can happen.
The Steelers at the AFC division championship game should become engaged in a defensive standoff with the Ravens. Obama has to deal with the offensive standoff between Israel and Palestine.
I don’t know about you but I’d rather be slide tackled Terrell Suggs than have Hamas lobbing rockets at me.
The Steelers, coming off a victory in the Tennessee, should have plenty of momentum to propel them through to the Superbowl. Obama is facing an economic downturn that may have plenty of momentum to drag us all into the worst recession, if not worldwide depression we have ever seen.
Not making it to the Superbowl vs. potential famine, calamity and poverty for millions… Eh, depends on if your in the game I suppose.
The Steelers have already won two hard fought victories over the Raven’s this season. Meanwhile the US is embroiled in two front’s in the Mideast that can’t exactly be called victory’s at this point. I’d take the latter option if I was Nixon in the middle of Watergate.
The horses I had in the race are already out of it, but it’s incumbent upon us as Americans to have faith and hold our leaders to a higher standard which I’m hoping Obama can measure up to. This one isn’t just a game, Obama gets sacked and we’re all in for a world of hurt.
Here’s to our new quarterback and hoping the blooper reel turns out in our favor. I’ll admit, I’m skeptical, because in the words of George Will “Football incorporates the two worst elements of American society: violence punctuated by committee meetings. “
Check Your Facts

Bill O’Reilly is anything but no-spin. I enjoy the guy just because he is much more fair and balanced than many other right wing nut-jobs that claim to be. He did a great interview with Obama here before the election which I do respect, but the slant with which he attacks some of the issues he chooses to comment on is undeniable.
I must say, the way he frames things to make a point is rather excellent, as with most talking heads but similarly disingenuous. In his most recent column O’Reilly states that Obama’s pole numbers have steadily risen since the economic meltdown. This was true until recently when Obama’s lead has dropped from as high as 8 points to as low as 3 depending on the pole, but the column is indeed dated after this most recent decline in margin.
The rest of the article is spot on save a few points of conjecture, but this is just one example of how the talking heads skew their arguments. The best lie is 99.99% truth and the spinners are masters of this fact. Like I say, at least his percentage is that high.
The point here is simply to remind listeners and voters alike to check the facts when they find themselves agreeing with any of these propagandists just a little too much. This goes for the left as well as the right.
I apologize for waxing political, but this stuff does keep me up at night. I’m not an insomniac entirely by choice and I worry about the future of our country when these spin masters are influencing the vast majority of public opinion.
Hillary over Obama or Obama over Hillary or McCain over Rice

Generally I’m going to try to avoid politics here, but this thought struck me as a little humorous.
right now it looks like Obama is going to take the Democratic nomination. this is all fine and good as far as I’m concerned, in terms of civil liberties. The concern I have is history, tending to repeat itself. women got the right to vote, before African-Americans … so I thought that the presidency would follow this trend.
the reality, I think, is that inevitably Obama and Clinton will end up on the same ticket. I have a hard time picturing Hillary playing second fiddle to Obama.
Then someone suggested to me that she is likely thinking -”He may end up getting shot or assassinated.” sick, sad, but very possibly true. Both in her thinking and in the possibility of it happening. Also a little funny.
so if Hillary and Obama end up on the same ticket, I think they’re pretty well unstoppable. I think they will end up with the vast majority of the female and African American vote, which no doubt outweighs the few white male supremacists left out there. this got me thinking, what in the world could McCain do to even up the score. I know! I know! Select a black woman for VP! My natural choice would be Condalesa Rice. I like her and I think he might have a bats chance in hell if he goes this way. Otherwise I think we’re in for 4 years, at a minimum of the Hillary and Obama gang.
